The Project:
The Rand Cold Storage project was the largest project we had undertaken to that point, and involved in the design and manufacture of a 5000 amp switchboard, plus several smaller boards, to be installed in the largest cold storage facility in the southern hemisphere.
The Challenges:
In designing the switchboard, staff were mindful of the facility’s low temperatures, high level of condensation, special technical requirements and the fact that the switchboard was to be suspended from the roof rather than installed in a traditional floor location. PGS Industries ordinarily requires about 12 weeks from the time of order to delivery for a project of this size. The end user required that we complete production in 4-6 weeks.
Result:
All design, discrimination studies, manufacturing, assembly and testing was carried out in-house by PGS Industries’ team of specialists. An experienced team, quality workmanship and excellent project management ensured the success of this project that was completed on-time and meeting all requirements.

Commercial Small Projects
The Project:
The Central Law Courts project involved the design and manufacture of a 2,500 amp switchboard, plus two MIMs junction boxes, to be installed onsite in the State’s biggest legal facility.
The Challenges:
In designing the switchboard, staff were mindful of the facility’s existing cabling system, high technical specifications and the fact that the switchboard had to be installed into a small existing switch room and was needed within a very constrained time frame. PGS Industries ordinarily requires about 10-12 weeks from the time of order to delivery for a project of this size. The end user required that we complete production in 4 weeks.
Result:
All design, discrimination studies, manufacturing, assembly and testing was carried out in-house by PGS Industries’ team of specialists, and was the fastest turnaround time we have ever had to achieve for such a large project. As a result of our effective management and commercial processes, the project was both successful and profitable; which allowed us to review the costs at the end of the project and offer the customer a substantial discount (approx. $20,000) from the original quote.
